Yoga
Yoga is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning “yoke” or union. There is a union of the body, mind and soul. I believe that by bringing awareness to all facets of ourselves we can deepen our knowledge of who we are and what we want. When we have this knowledge, we can connect more freely to our inner wisdom, our inner voice that knows what is best for us. We are not born with a roadmap that directs us how to live. Circumstances arise that can cause us to feel a whole range of emotions that can be confusing, disorienting and at time, very painful. We each have an inner sage or sense of “knowing” through our intuition. Some of us have cultivated this ability more than others. I can help guide you to better listen to your inner voice, to your innate roadmap of life. My training in both Kundalini and Naam Yogas can be useful in the overall therapeutic process. I like to combine certain yoga techniques, such as meditation and specific yoga breathing, with more traditional “talk therapies” based on the individual client’s needs and desires.
Reiki
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: “Rei” which means “God’s wisdom or the Higher Power” and “Ki” which is “life force energy”. It is a technique that aids in stress reduction and relaxation which in turn, promotes healing. I can explore energetic healing and reiki techniques with clients who are amenable to alternative therapies. As a trained reiki practitioner, I find that reiki can be a powerful tool in helping clients achieve feelings of overall well-being. When used in combination with other therapeutic techniques, I can use reiki to help you feel better and to help you live a meaningful life.
Herbal Medicine
I have spent the last few years actively studying western herbal medicine. I strongly believe that by being more in tune with ourselves, we can become more sensitive to what we put in our bodies. We also can become more sensitive to our environment. I have learned that there are many plants that have medicinal properties and that are helpful in the overall healing process. Plants represent our highest form of being and provide a sense of wholeness. Too often we experience a sense of fragmentation that leads to feelings of anxiety and depression. Plants teach us about the beauty of nature and the natural rhythm of life. I can advise my clients about using natural herbs to facilitate the healing of both physical and psychic wounds.
Clinical Supervision/Consultation
I work with other clinicians to better understand the relationships they have with their clients. I help practitioners raise their overall clinical awareness and draw upon their own strengths and expertise to achieve optimal outcomes for their clients. Together we tease out what the client brings to treatment in combination with what the clinician brings to the therapy session. I help therapists to see more clearly what is not being said in the therapy room and how to use that information to best help the clients. During clinical supervision, we can work to increase your receptivity and understanding of your clients’ experiences as well as your own.
Clinical supervision/consultation is recommended for all therapists, no matter how long they have practiced in the field. It provides a fresh set of eyes and can shed light on both the clinicians’ understanding of themselves as well as of their clients.
